Tuesday’s News

I wasn’t here yesterday so the blogging police need to leave me alone! LOL Anyway, I called the Christian Source Bookstore in Conroe today and arranged for a book signing for August. Have you ever called someone who just made your day? This woman was so sweet and has agreed to call me back with the best high-traffic times in addition to confirming the date for the tax-free weekend! I’m so excited. Sounds like I might want to move in over there. LOL Maybe I can worm my way into to doing two to three signings a year just to spend time there. :-D

Meet the Christian Authors Night - THIS Friday, July 31!!!!!!

If you’ll be in The Woodlands area on Friday the 31st around 6:30 or so, drop in and say “Hi” to me! I’ll be there with about 40 other Christian authors! You can fine more information here: More Information, but we’ll be selling and signing books to help some awesome single moms in the area! If you like jewlery, be sure to stop in because there will be some gorgeous jewlery there! Again, more information at the website above!

I would also like to say that yes, there is a spelling error (I like to call it a typo) in my book trailer. Instead of it saying Kristin, it says Kistin. The character’s name is Kristin..hee… oh well. I tried to email to have it fixed, but never heard back so I guess I’m stuck with the error…something to talk about I guess.

Candle Day

Candle Day is simply the term I’ve given to the Mondays when Dean is off work and Pauline and I parade all over creation shopping for candle supplies or selling our goods. So when I mention Candle Day, just know that I’m out and about. :-P

Anyone else thinking they want a wedding do-over? Hee

I love this!

Poll Ends July 27th!

There is a battle raging between those who want Chocolate Chip Cookies and those who want Coconut as the new candle scent for August. If you want in on the decision, vote now or forever hold your peace!

Review - By Darkness Hid by Jill Williamson

by-darkness-hid-final

I have got to tell you about By Darkness Hid, the first book in the series, Blood of Kings written by Jill Williamson and published by Marcher Lord Press. When Jill asked for influencers for her Christian medieval young adult book, I jumped all over it. I used the fact that I have three teens to earn myself a copy and the right to review. I was thrilled when the book showed up and couldn’t wait to start reading.

Immediately I was drawn into the story as I was introduced first to Achan and then to Vrell. Not once did I find myself bored and simply reading from page to page hoping for something to happen. The best part is that the story is not predictable! I looked forward to reading this book each night because I knew that I would end up being surprised by the predicaments that the characters found themselves in.

Achan is a stray and strays have no rights what-so-ever. Strays are destined to wear an orange tunic and are rarely permitted to marry. They are treated worse than slaves. Achan’s life takes a drastic turn when he gains the interest of Sir Gavin and finds himself on an adventure he could have never imagined.

Vrell Sparrow now lives her life disguised as a stray, hiding her identity from one who has the power to make her life a living nightmare. She too finds herself in places that if her identity was known, she would never be. Achan’s and Vrell’s lives will cross when they discover that each of them shares the gift of Bloodvoicing.

I enjoyed this page-turner and didn’t want the story to end. I simply cannot wait until book two is released so that I can climb back into this story and continue the adventures with Achan and Vrell.

If you’re looking for a great gift to give to your teens this Christmas, this is it! Be warned that you might often find them locked away in their rooms reading. It’s that good! I read until my eyes drooped and simply had to put it down until I had some sleep. Jill Williamson captures the real-life feelings of her characters. You will feel their pain as well as their laughter. I must also comment on the book itself. It’s beautiful! 490 pages filled with characters that will either make you love them or hate them. I can’t stress enough how much you will love By Darkness Hid. For more information, visit Jill’s website at: http://jillwilliamson.wordpress.com/.

Hello?

Yeah, it’s been a while. I keep promising myself (and maybe some others) that I’ll get back to blogging. I have to admit it. I am worn out on blogging! Perhaps if I has some sort of purpose FOR blogging, I would blog more. Most would say, “Rene’! I can count at least six purposes that should keep your blog filled with words!” Kids, yeah, right. Okay, they’re here…but they keep doing the same things. It’s summertime so the messes abound! They make messes and I spend all day telling them to clean them up. My house hasn’t been the same since two days before the last day of school. The last two days were half days so they got a head start on house destruction.

I guess I never got to tell you that we got a pool. Nothing special, just a 16 FT round saltwater pool. They don’t work so great in Texas where the humidity can burn you like steam coming off a kettle. I do, however, love the pool. I have a tan for the first time in probably 12 years! As of right now, the pool is laying out in the sun, not me. We had to take it down, scrub it and let the ground harden up a bit. Sounds strange considering we’re having a drought, but it was a little mushy from draining the pool.

We now have candles available on our site and even though the pictures don’t show them in all their labeled glory, they do have labels and will sport them once purchased. I’ve also perfected our tarts so I’m happy about that. I burned ONE tart for four days and my entire house smelled delicious. When people walk in, the comment on how good the house smells so I’m happy and just waiting on some color blocks in order to get busy making more tarts! So watch the website at Scentsable Yum! for tarts to appear! I would also like to invite you to join our Yahoo group: Scentsable Yum! Yahoo Group. You can also find us on Facebook!!! I *think* that’s all for now. LOL

Book reviews. I’ve put this off and thought, I can’t do this! But now, I think I might give book reviews a try. I will be working today on getting this blog up to date and I have the best review to start with! If you haven’t hear of Jill Williamson, you will!  I’ll be posting a glowing review of her book, By Darkness Hid. I absolutely loved it and firmly believe that she needs to join J.K. Rowling and Stephenie Meyer…they could make up the Awesome Book Writing Trio! I seriously loved this book!!!

So anyway! That’s my update for now I guess. I’ll try to make it a habit to blog every day so I get back into the groove. Oh..I’ve lost and gained the same three pounds for months now. If I could lose a fourth, maybe, just maybe it would trigger something in my noggin to make me lose more!

Scentsable Yum!

We took a nice long drive to Keller, TX yesterday to get candle supplies and now all we need to do is schedule a day to get together and make some candles. We picked some yummy scents that I know you will love. We spent almost three hours sniffing different fragrance oils and picked eight to start with. Our plan is to add new fragrances each month.  For starters we picked:

Raspberry Chocolate Drizzle
Pineapple
Hawaiian Breeze
Mandarin Cranberry
Biscotti
Honeydew Melon
Mango Papaya
Creme Brulee
